Steam Kettles, Food Services

Often, after a hospital visit, the two things patients and families reflect on are, one: the care they receive, and two: the food!

Valley Regional Hospital’s Food & Nutrition Services team has the large task of feeding patients and serving the cafeteria, while adhering to special diets and maintaining quality. And they do an incredible job of keeping up with the task!

Recently, the Food Services team required funding to purchase two new Steam Jackets, valued at $22,000. With thanks to our donor community, the Foundation was able to support their team!

These energy efficient replacements allow for hands-off cooking, freeing up staff from constant monitoring. By reducing food waste and improving meal quality, this will help support both the Food Services team to continue to deliver top notch meals, but also improve patient satisfaction. Thank you Annapolis Valley!

Blood Culture Analyzers

At Valley Regional Hospital, the lab is a powerhouse of activity, performing more than 3.5 million tests each year. Not only serving the Annapolis Valley, but healthcare centres across the entire Western Zone. To keep pace with this demand, two new Blood Culture Analyzers, and one replacement were installed thanks to community support.

In the care of life-threatening infections like sepsis or meningitis, speed is a necessity. These analyzers allow our lab to detect and diagnose infections with incredible precision. By identifying the cause of illness faster, healthcare teams can initiate targeted treatment sooner.

This critical upgrade means:

• Improved patient outcomes

• Supports life-saving clinical decisions in real time

• Enhances our Lab’s ability to deliver timely, evidence-based care

Rehab Services

The Rehab Services Clinic required a replacement Recumbent Bicycle and thanks to donor support, the Foundation was able to replace the aging one with a new model that is better designed for people with mobility challenges, particularly getting onto and exiting the equipment.

With more than 3000 physiotherapy appointments per year utilizing the bike — this will certainly be impactful for our community! This bicycle benefits patients recovering from orthopedic surgery such as a hip or knee replacement, patients recovering from stroke or other neurological events, lower extremity injury, cardiorespiratory illness, and warming up muscles and joints prior to physiotherapy treatment.  Your donation has made an impact in patient recovery, confidence, and independence.
