A tax-smart way to give

Donating publicly traded securities—such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds—is one of the most tax-smart ways you can give.

When you donate securities in-kind, rather than selling them and donating the proceeds, you pay no capital gains tax on the increase in value. That means more of your investment goes to patient care; not to taxes.

You’ll also receive a receipt for the full market value of your securities on the date of the transfer, which you can then claim as a charitable donation on your tax return.

Gifts of securities can be made during your lifetime or as a gift in your will. As with any planned gift, we suggest you check with your financial advisor for the strategy that works best for you.
