$2.8 Million Legacy Gift Creates New Fund for Children and Youth – Valley Regional Hospital Foundation to carry forward decades of community impact from Kings County Children’s Foundation.

A legacy of caring for children in the Annapolis Valley is living on in a big way.

Valley Regional Hospital Foundation (VRHF) has received an incredible $2.8 million gift from the Kings County Children’s Foundation (KCCF), a long-standing local charity that recently wrapped up its work after 40 years of supporting children and families.

The Foundation has established the Children and Youth Wellness Fund with the full amount of the gift. The new fund will support programs that help children and youth thrive, especially those facing social, emotional, mental, or physical challenges.

“A healthy community starts with the well-being of our youngest populations,”
— Karen Theriault, CEO, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation

KCCF was founded in 1981 by the late Dr. Barbara Chase Archibald, whose vision and generosity sparked decades of investment in early intervention programs for children with special needs. Through careful stewardship, the foundation’s original $1 million endowment grew to $2.8 million—funds now entrusted to VRHF to continue Dr. Archibald’s legacy.

“We’re thrilled to pass the torch to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation,” says Christina Macdonald, KCCF board member. “Their mission and track record made them the perfect partner.”

The new Children and Youth Wellness Fund will continue supporting programs like the long-standing partnership with Valley Child Development Association, while exploring new ways to improve health and wellness for children and youth across the Annapolis Valley.
