Every corner of the Valley, supporting every corner of the hospital
When a health crisis hits, families across our community depend on Valley Regional Hospital to be ready. Late last year, Lisa spent six days at Valley Regional Hospital, rarely leaving the bedside of her husband Mike as he battled life-threatening meningitis.
Just as his condition began to stabilize, Lisa felt a burning pain in her chest. She assumed it was stress, until a nurse noticed her laboured breathing. Within moments, Lisa was rushed to a Trauma Room. Lisa was suffering from a “widow-maker” heart attack.
Because hospital staff were equipped to pivot in an instant, Lisa was stabilized and Life Flighted for emergency surgery. Today, she and Mike are back at home in Greenwood, grateful for every moment.
You’ve made a difference in so many critical moments, but there’s more to do — priority medical equipment is needed throughout the hopsital:
- Endoscopy Day Surgery Stretchers: A powered bed (x2) to achieve optimal patient positioning, while ensuring the safety of patients and staff
- Digital Cell Morphology: An automated laboratory system to standardize and improve workflow that allows for collaboration across the province. This will help treat patients more quickly and better health outcomes for those with diseases of the blood, such as leukemia, anemia, and platelet disorders.
- Stryker Treatment Chairs: Allow for physiotherapy teams to better mobilize patients; letting the healthcare teams follow behind patients while walking but also providing space to quickly rest.
Lisa often asks, “How do I thank them? No one has ever saved my life before.” For Lisa, like many of our neighbours, gratitude means ensuring the next family has the same chance.
